Mrs. Gauthier,
Please forward a thank you to Ms. Kirby and Miss Palaganas for the letters of affirmation they gave Erik.
Ms. Kirby and Miss Palaganas,
There truly is no more valuable gift then the letters you wrote to Erik. His face lit up as he read each letter. He smiled, his silly grin, at the "juicy" words of encouragement and affirmation. By the end of the 2nd note, his eyes were full of tears and he said, "I didn't know that they knew so much about me." The true meaning was for him was, they know me and they like me! That realization is huge for this little guy whose best efforts at friendship are often misunderstood.
I almost went into the ugly cry, as I realized that you really saw his strengths and his heart. I wish you could have seen the impact it had. These powerful notes are pinned to his corkboard and will be a source of pride and warmth for a long time. I appreciate the time it took to write to each student. Please know that these kind words may be the most important lesson you taught. These letters will be remembered and treasured.
Wishing you the best in your careers. You have been given an extraordinary example to follow in Mrs. Gauthier and your letters show your heart for children. Erik was blessed to have you and I hope having him added to your experience.
Thank you, Evonne
